History
Magic Glass would soon be receiving semi-trailer loads of glass to serve the growing auto industry. Many automobiles had the same windshield across models and between trucks and cars there were deep discounts for buying in bulk and projecting potential needs months in advance. As the market began to mature, Safelite began buying up auto glass shops across the country and consolidating distribution. The Smith brothers enjoyed the business and didn’t need the money so they refused to sell. Automobiles had become more diverse and daily delivers became more feasible so large shipments turned into daily shipments. The company continued to operate well and the Smith’s acquired several other industrial buildings and farmland in the areas they worked.
Eventually, location managers expressed interest in acquiring their respective locations and the Smith family began to sell respective territories to prominent local managers. In 2011, Mike and Kim DeWilde acquired the Lafayette, IN office and merged the Anderson and Indianapolis territories into this location which is now servicing 26 counties. With the help of long time co-workers, the DeWilde’s continued to reliably serve insurance, commercial and the growing cash customer base in northwest Indiana and Eastern Illinois.
Known for their quality work and next day service, Magic Glass is a staple for many businesses, their employees and their family vehicles. Many of the Magic Glass employees have decades of experience and are among the highest respected in the region.
In May of 2017, Little Engine Ventures (LEV) acquired DeWilde Glass Inc. (dba Magic Glass Lafayette) from Mike and Kim DeWilde and promoted a local master technician, Chris Franks into General Manager. They continue to serve the area with the same honest and reliable service their customers have come to expect.
